Meet Angel, SheVontae, and Timmy.
These are just three of the hundreds of young people who turn to Youth Services of Tulsa (YST) for help during a time in their lives most of us can barely imagine — HOMELESSNESS. While helping provide basic needs like hot meals and showers, YST offers extensive case management services to help these youth leave the streets for good.
To clothe homeless teens, YST relies on donations of gently-worn apparel from caring people in our local community. The attached photos show how most of our clothing donations arrive – stuffed in trash bags, waiting for volunteers to sort out wearable items from the unsalvageable or age-inappropriate. We are grateful for these donations, as are our youth. Every little bit helps these young people trying to scratch out their survival on the streets.
Thanks to Dignity U Wear, a couple of times each year, our young people receive an extraordinary gift: brand new clothing and accessories! Picking out their very own clothing, never worn by anyone else, is a rare luxury for youth accustomed to hand-me-downs and cast-asides from strangers. These photos were taken at our street outreach center, when Angel, SheVontae, and Timmy were trying on new clothing donated by Dignity U Wear. The expression of joy on Angel’s face says it all.
Just as its name implies, Dignity U Wear gives homeless teens something far too many have lost along the way – DIGNITY. Although these remarkable youth may be facing huge challenges, they’ll do so looking their best! We are incredibly grateful to Dignity U Wear for touching the lives of hundreds of vulnerable youth in Tulsa. Thank you for caring!

I was speechless when I opened up the box with all of the beautiful jewelry. You really went above and beyond my expectations, and I am so truly grateful for your generosity. Thank you for being so generous in our call for help for women that we serve in Philadelphia who are homeless. The bras are beautiful also, and will make a true difference.
I will contact you to thank you again after our event, but I just wanted to you to know how much I appreciate your kindness and your assistance.

Sockuary a Smashing Success!
February is Sockuary project, an effort to collect socks for seniors, was a new outreach venture and the ElderSource staff is pleased to report that the community response was overwhelming! Throughout the month of February individuals and businesses donated new socks to seniors in need.
The result: 3,765 pairs of socks were collected — knee socks, ankle socks, crew socks, colorful socks were brought in by individuals, companies and community organizations. Thank you!
“We are so pleased that so many people took the time to donate socks and encouraged their companies to get involved,” said Linda Levin, ElderSource Executive Director. “The results and the enthusiasm for this project certainly knocked our socks off!”

thank you for the generous donation of 200 socks- 100 women’s and 100 men’s from Dignity U Wear The socks were gorgeous or should I say “wore” gorgeous!
We gave the socks out to homeless families and individuals. We operate our program in an area where there are many families who are in desperate need for shelter, food and assistance. Union County has the highest number of homeless families in the state of New Jersey.
You are the nicest and most helpful people I have ever worked with, over the phone, in a very long time. Your organization is doing amazing work-everyone who received these socks were thrilled that they were brand new!” – Geleen G. Donovan, Family Promise Union County
“Thank you so much for the items you sent to the Community Closet last week. We haven’t looked in all of the boxes yet, but as always, the items we have seen are wonderful and will bless so many. Even though the women we serve are poorer, they still like to dress up like all ladies and look nice. A number of them go to church regularly and a nice dress will just bring a smile to their faces.” – Jerri Tedrick, The City Rescue Mission
“Thank you so much for your generous clothing donations to the children and birth mothers we work with! It feels like Christmas morning when the clothing donations arrive. You have helped so many families in need. Thanks for all you do!” – Adoption Option
“Recently, I was approached by a school guidance counselor for help with a child who was displaying behavior problems in class. I called the mother and immediately found out that she had recently been released from jail, and the child had been living with his grandparents and had been returned to her home. She was dealing with trying to get a job, get better housing, and get back on her feet, so that she could provide a solid financial and emotional foundation for her children. Her only experience with social workers had been with the Department of Children and Families, and she had a fear that her children would be removed. When I first called her, she was very guarded and almost hostile because of this fear. As soon as I offered to get her clothing from Dignity U’ Wear, I could hear a change in her voice, and I knew that she trusted me. Subsequently, I was able to talk to her about the benefits of counseling for her son, and how this could help him through this time of transition. I was able to take the information about the family and discuss it with his teachers, so that their understanding of his social circumstances could help guide them in their approach to instruction. Without Dignity U’ Wear, I am not sure this could have happened.” Eric Evans, School Social Worker, Duval County Public Schools
“I would like to take a moment to tell how honored I am to be able to wear your suit that you provided for me. I am a Wounded Warrior and I will wear your article of clothing with as much pride as I have had while I was still in the United States Marine Corps. Best wish and thank you once again for your continued support.” – James, Veteran
“I’m just expressing my gratitude for the help and support you offer to expecting mothers! I greatly needed clothing to wear as I am growing. The baby and I are both comfortable now. Once again thank you Dignity U Wear and The Way Free Medical Clinic for everything.” – Samantha, The Way Free Medical Clinic maternity clothing recipient
“Because of the variety of style preferences and sizes, we are always in need of certain items. Knowing that Dignity U Wear is working to make quality clothing available at no cost is a tremendous blessing and an encouragement to other potential donors. We are extremely grateful for your partnership!” – Nancy, The Jobs Partnership of Florida
“Thank You so much! Your organization brought tears to my eyes tonight when I opened my box. I consider myself to be a very salty veteran hardened over the years of service. But, tonight you fine folks cracked my hard exterior and made a grown man tear up with pride. I am looking forward to wearing this suit on the hunt for a job in the civilian sector. Again, I can’t thank your organization enough! – Todd, Veteran
“I just had to take another opportunity to thank you for facilitating the shipment of the six boxes of beautiful maternity clothes that arrived here on Tuesday morning. They were more than we ever expected! I opened the boxes yesterday and was amazed at the quality and style of the items. Our clients will be so grateful (and gorgeous)! We are so blessed to receive such an outstanding donation from Dignity U Wear.” – Donna, Options for Women
“I just wanted to take some time out to thank you and the DIGNITY U WEAR organization for the clothing and items you recently sent me. As I look for an internship driven towards my career this summer, the suit will surely be used and much appreciated! I can’t thank you enough for the support and love you all have shown.” – Stephen, Student Veterans of America
“My name is Kristen Smith, and I am the aftercare services manager at River Region Human Services, Inc. (Aftercare program). I work with the Matrix House program in which we provide substance abuse services to incarcerated inmates in hope they will not return to jail or continue substance use. The shoes we previously received were excellent and the ladies really enjoyed them! We try to continue to help provide resources for our women in hopes to help boost their self-esteem. A healthy self-esteem promotes a better way of living! Some of our women have received employment since our last distribution from you!“ Kristen Smith, River Region Human Services
“I just wanted to write and say thank you for the amazing suit and accessories you gave to me. I am a combat wounded veteran and I greatly appreciate all you guys do for other veterans. God bless! Nathan
“I cannot begin to thank you or properly express how much these fantastic pallets of clothing have meant to us here at the Clothing Ministry of DESC. We are still averaging 45-55 families a day and things don’t show any sign of slacking off. As a matter of fact, I am expecting increasing numbers with the oncoming weather change. For the last 4 days I have been open, I have had to close an hour early to accomodate everyone. We have so many new clients who have expressed that they have never had to ask for help before. I don’t know what we would do without the help of Dignity U Wear. And I am helpless to offer you anything but my sincere gratitude and appreciation for your ongoing help and support. Your organization is a God-send to us and to so many others.” Beth, Clothing Ministry of DESC
“The old proverb, ‘It takes a village to raise a child,’ is exemplified by your team effort. And has never been more true. The mission is stronger because of your time, energy and passion. We are so grateful. MANY, MANY THANKS!” Beth Keller, Chris Kids
“You have just made my day and I would like to say thank you and God bless. I received my suit in the mail today and it much more than what I was expecting I am smiling from ear to ear a million thanks to you.” Michael, Suits for Soldiers recipient
“The students that complete our 12-week Life & Work employability training class do not have appropriate interview attire, so before they head out into the workforce, we outfit them from head to toe. In recent years, we have been exceedingly blessed to receive ties and undergarments for our male students through Dignity U Wear. We usually have more than 50 gentlemen to outfit so these donations are essential. We are grateful for your on-going work on behalf of those who need outer clothing to help build their inner strength. Thank you!” Nancy Schneider, The Jobs Partnership of Florida
“We have been working with Dignity U Wear for 5 years now and are excited about what you provide our guests. Our primary guest is Burmese refugees who have been and are being transplanted to the High Point, NC area. We receive around 400 new refugees from Burma each year! Recently we provided some of the new clothing that we received from Dignity U Wear. Without the clothing you provide we would be greatly diminished from what we would like to do for them.” Allan Visser, First Christian Church of High Point
“On behalf of the women and children of Good Shepherd Center, thank you for your donation of 500 pieces of bras, socks, underwear, pants, and shirts. Your gift, and the spirit behind it, means a great deal to the women and children who come to us for help. Our staff sees first-hand the growing number of women and families who have found themselves homeless. It is only because of generous donors like you that we are able to serve the women and children who come through our doors.” Sister Anne Tran, Good Shepherd Center
“I am a student in the Jobs Partnership of Florida. I received a pair of your lounge pants with my “care package” of hygiene products, t-shirts, etc. I just want to say thank you for all that you do to help people like myself. I realize there is much that goes into what you do and all we see are the end result. However, God sees and He is delighted with your labor of love. Strangely, I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, rooting for the Crimson Tide and the pants I received are none other than the same. In fact, I am wearing them now! So, again, thanks so much for what you do, for caring and wanting to help. I for one am grateful and appreciate you all. God bless you!” With lots of love, Kelly Kornegay
“Last Monday I asked one of our mom’s if she needed maternity clothes and shoes. She was wearing flip-flops and immediately took one of them off and showed me the shoe. It had a hole in it the size of a quarter. This is her only pair of shoes and she walks to our clinic for her visits! As for maternity clothes, she had been wearing jeans that she wore before she was pregnant, so she had to walk around wearing them unzipped! I went through our stash of clothes and picked out some for her to try on. She was especially excited about a pair of overalls and called me in the room so I could see them on her. She thought they would be perfect to wear, even after the baby is born, since she plans to nurse her baby. The appreciation she had for the clothes was nothing short of food for my soul!” Molly Mason, Case Worker, The Way Free Medical Clinic
“RM” was smuggled into the United States by her mother through the Mexican border. Shortly after her arrival, she was forced into prostitution by her mother. She was being transported to Miami to another prostitution house when she was rescued by the authorities. Her kidnappers were arrested and the vehicle was seized along with the contents which included lingerie, condoms and other skimpy clothing. Luckily she was only working for three weeks before she was rescued. RM was placed into a loving foster home with only the clothing on her back.
RM was very, very thankful ( she even cried ) and she told our Guardian Ad Litem to extend her gratitude to Dignity U Wear for helping her while she was in need. – Crystal Adams, Volunteer Supervisor, Fourth Judicial Circuit, Guardian Ad Litem Program
“One man, in particular, has come through here on several different occasions, seeking clothing for a 5X man. We never turn the clientele away when we have, and if we don’t have what they are looking for – we pray, asking God to send their need, and then call them back when we do receive it. Now, this gentleman will be able to receive new, beautiful clothing – even a suit (From Casual Male XL)! I am so excited for him to come this next time! Just the thought of this surprise moves me to tears! You have no clue how much this gentleman will be touched through your gift! He will leave with dignity! Joy McGuire, Director/Founder, With Love From Jesus
“One little girl joined us this summer, and she got to go to the Clothing Closet last week with the other girls in her cottage so everyone could get school clothes. Her eyes popped when she walked in, and she found that we had so many clothes in her size. We told her she could et as much as she needed, and she browsed, tried things on, and carefully made her selections. Beaming from ear to ear, she told her house mom, ‘I’ve never gotten this many new clothes at one time!’
“All of the girls in our youngest cottage love the Clothing Closet, and what they love more than anything might surprise you. They LOVE getting brand new underwear and brand new socks. Every time they go to the Clothing Closet, they expectantly wait for Ms. Cheryl to give them at least one pair of new underwear and socks, or more if they need it. They get so excited!” Boys and Girls Country, Hockley, TX
“Here in the inner city of Atlanta we are also being blessed by your donations. Children who are not able to purchase even a coat or a pair of shoes. Because of you they are able to start school with DIGNITY!!!!!! Blessings on you and any efforts made to prosper you!”Pat Powell, StreetWise Georgia
“The business suits we have received have been so wonderful! Our veterans get so excited when they get the opportunity to go pick one out. I have a story that I think you will enjoy. On December 15, 2009, the U.S. VETS Site Director received the following email through the U.S. VETS website:
‘I am a homeless veteran and am on the brink of robbing people. This is something that I hope to avoid. Not only because I have a son but because I am only a few classes away from completing a degree. I do not drink or use drugs and just need a place to sleep… my housing situation has changed. Any help would be appreciated.‘
“That email was written by Mani M. and soon after writing that email, he entered the Veterans in Progress (VIP) program, on February 8, 2010. Today, he has successfully completed three phases of program requirements and will soon be graduating to the fourth program phase which is permanent housing. He was able to secure full time employment at Goodwill Industries thanks to a brand new suit from Dignity U Wear and Mens Wearhouse. It is amazing how much power can be found in a single suit!! Thank you so much!!” United States Veterans Initiative, Las Vegas, NV
“Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. It is gladly appreciated and welcome. What you have given has been a true blessing and a welcomed delight for many of us that were fortunate to receive these outfits. I am very grateful and much obliged. Thank you very much from a mother and her son.” SAFEHOME, Kansas City, KS
“I came to Safehome from KKU med. Center with two broken ribs, a fractured wrist, bruises everywhere and cancer. WOW ! Not to mention most importantly my 3-year old son. My son and I have now graduated the amazing, life changing program, qualified for transitional living and continue therapy, classes, and 110% accountability with Safehome . Our change and new life is our only way to thank you all enough!!” Theresa & Christian, SAFEHOME, Kansas City, KS
“My favorite Dignity U Wear story is about a high school student. She is a mom and basically on her own. The day after she received her Dignity U Wear box of clothes she was in the office and I commented on how fashionable/Hollywood she looked and she said…it came from the box you gave me yesterday. I had no idea because I don’t open the boxes I only deliver them. I was so impressed and you could tell she felt good about herself. She physically looked good therefore her emotional self was shining through in her self confidence. It was a touching moment.”
Susanne Hall, MSW, School Social Worker, Clay District Schools, Florida
“I was so excited to get a beautiful outfit & other things for looking for a job. I feel sure now, that I can get employment, as before, I just did not have what I needed. Thank you so much!”
Melissa, Dress for Success, Austin, TX
“Thank you so much to Dignity U Wear for entrusting the Durham Economic Resource Center with the generous donation of women’s pants and jackets. As you know, adult poverty affects our communities on so many different levels from being the source of high crime rates, homelessness, high unemployment rates, and it is reaching our young children in so many negative ways. While all of us are susceptible to hard times, those who are chronically unemployed and hard to employ from all ages are at most risk, and they make up the largest number of clients we serve.
With the generous support of organizations like Dignity U Wear, we will be able to help many of these individuals not only to meet essential daily needs, but to work toward a brighter future.”
Jacqueline E. Brown – CEO DERC, Durham, NC
“Just yesterday, it felt good to give a little 9-year-old girl her box of clothing at school. This is a girl whose clothing never fits or seems appropriate for the weather. She comes to the school clinic several times a week to get a clothing change from our clothes closet of donated clothing. She is a sweet girl who has been through much. Last school year, her mother died of a drug overdose and this girl was the one who found her mother. She now lives with an adult sister and does not really receive the kind of attention a young girl deserves. Your clothing box made this little girl so happy. Wow! New clothing for a change!
“I was lucky to experience the generosity of Dignity U Wear, pre- Katrina and after, when they sent a huge 18- wheeler filled with thousands of articles of new clothing for the hurricane victims in New Orleans. With the help of the National Guard we were able to distribute the much needed clothing to parishes, churches and agencies all over the metro area. Most of the recipients had lost everything. When we saw that truck turn the corner into the Stein Mart parking lot in Metairie, volunteers and recipients gave a loud cheer of appreciation. We will never forget that day.” Joan, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans
“I also delivered a box of clothing to a mother who wanted to open her box in front of me. I am so glad that she did. You would have thought that she had ordered the clothing from a catalog, as everything she pulled out of it delighted her. She pulled out shoes that wonderfully matched a pair of dress pants she owned. She tried the shoes on; they fit! The sweater was her favorite color! Every item of clothing she pulled from the box was as if the person who chose it, knew her and her tastes – right down to the thong underwear! J She was delighted to have new clothes to wear for work as she and her husband have been out of work for a year and now are trying to get caught up on bills. They certainly did not have the money for new clothing. Having new clothing made her feel like a new woman. I wish you and your staff could witness the joy you bring to others. Perhaps you say a prayer over the clothing and ask God to bless the recipient. Thank you for your efforts and all you do to bring joy to others whose lives are not blessed with many material things. May God bless you. Thank you!”
Jean Pease, School Social Worker, Clay County School District
“Here is what happened when we opened your box!!! ‘Wow, boxers!!’ Susan came to me all exited and said, ‘You won’t believe what’s in that box!!! Boxers.’ All of us were very surprised and thrilled because the men like boxers better than briefs!!
“Thank you so much for all you do for us and others. We could not help our homeless women and men look so good if it were not for your agency. God bless you.”
Sister Carleen, St. Ann Place, West Palm Beach, FL
“I put in a request for clothes for an 11-year-old boy who lives with his father, who is recovering from cancer surgery. Dignity U Wear was able to provide him with a box full of new clothes. Thank you!
“At the time, however, you did not have shoes, and because I knew how badly he needed the shoes, I resubmitted the request. Of course, as you know, you were ultimately able to help me get him his first pair of new Nikes. When I gave him the shoes he said ‘These are the best pair of shoes I have ever had!’ I told him who donated the shoes, and he said to please tell them thank you.”
Eric Evans, School Social Worker, Duval County School System, FL
“Thanks so much for the generous donation of new clothing to help us to assist our clients. Our clients can always have a sense of pride when they receive donations from you. All the donated clothing is current and in style. My clients proudly wear their new clothing to interviews and school.”
G. Jackson, CEO, Praise Unlimited Homeless Services, Beverly Hills, CA
“One of the programs the Mission offers is our survival skills program, aimed at empowering women to become financially independent. An important element of the program is re-entry into employment. These women live below the poverty line and worry every day about providing the basic needs for their children. Clothing for themselves would be considered out of the question for them. Your organization has allowed them to have the professional clothing they need to interview for employment and start new lives for themselves and their families.”
Valerie Chamberlain, Executive Director, Mooresville Christian Mission, Mooresville, NC
