The Right Fit for Our Heart

Typically, Dignity U Wear works exclusively on poverty in America.  Working in disaster relief or overseas is complicated and difficult to assess impact, and there is so much need day in and day out right here.  Our goal is to channel resources to programs that give people the best chance to get their lives on track. Occasionally, a need arises overseas and we know it’s the right fit.  So we do what we do best.  Provide clothes.  And provide dignity.

Together with home town partners at Presbyterian Social Ministries, Clothing Ministry at DESC and Seniors on a Mission, we recently shipped 15 boxes of new clothes to Haiti.  A total of 1,518 articles of clothing were sent to a country and people that have been devastated by disaster.

At Dignity U Wear we take pride in not only providing new clothing at the right time, but also in ensuring our distributions are handled with care and accuracy.  Volunteers made sure the clothes were vacuumed sealed in plastic, counted, carefully wrapped and packed into double-strength boxes.

Dr. John Lovejoy, a local surgeon working in Haiti, placed the clothes in a medical container he was sending to the country.

As Dave Tuttle and John Lovejoy were loading up a truck for delivery to the shipping container, a gentleman walked up to them and said, “Thank you.”  He saw the shipping labels that read “Haiti.” The man was Haitian and said, “Thank you for helping my country and people.”

“You’re welcome,” was all they could say.
