A Magical Day: One Jacket Kick-Off
Elementary school children file into their school’s multi-purpose room. 85-90% of them are from low-income families. They are capable, eager students with sharp minds and a drive to learn. But they are not equipped with what they need to make the most of their school day. Their families do not have the resources for the warm winter clothes they need.
Today, however, these students could not be more excited. Thanks to Dignity U Wear, NFL quarterback Blaine Gabbert is coming to visit. And he is bringing employees from Dignity’s sponsor and partner, The Brumos Companies, to deliver brand new coats, gloves and hats – all for them. All to keep them warm. To help them learn.
The difference? This day, November 8, is the first of many clothing distributions as part of Dignity U Wear’s One Jacket campaign. Aware of the incredible need for winter clothing for children, Dignity has created a goal to provide new winter clothing to 1,500 school children for the upcoming cold weather months.
The magic happens when people come together to help. Dignity set out to find partners for the project and welcomed The Brumos Companies into the Dignity family. The Brumos Companies’ employees outdid themselves – sorting and packing the apparel the day before the event and walking alongside the Dignity team, through the halls and into the auditoriums of the schools, to deliver hope in the form of warm clothing.
The Jacksonville Jaguars also joined the collaboration. As a result, the children received more than clothes on November 8. As members of local media gathered and cameras flashed, the students found themselves in the company of Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert. They asked questions about his football skills, grilled him with math questions, took countless photos and squirmed in delight as he signed autographs.
Dignity U Wear is grateful to everyone who made the day possible. Thank you to The Brumos Companies, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Blaine Gabbert for pulling together as a community for one magical day. This winter, the children we served will be warmer for it – inside and out.
